DLT Earth Supports Strategic Collaboration Between Verra and Hedera to Advance Digital Carbon Markets

DLT Earth is proud to support a partnership between Verra and the Hedera Foundation, aimed at accelerating the digital transformation of global carbon markets. This long-term collaboration will deliver next-generation digital infrastructure to enhance transparency, auditability, and efficiency across carbon project methodologies and monitoring systems.
As part of the initiative, Verra becomes the first carbon standards body to integrate with Hedera Guardian, an open-source platform built on Hedera’s distributed ledger technology. This integration marks a key milestone in the effort to create scalable, high-integrity markets for climate finance. Mandy Rambharos, CEO of Verra commented:
“This collaboration represents a significant advancement in Verra’s digitalisation strategy, enhancing our ability to deliver more efficient, transparent, and scalable climate action.”
This collaboration will also allow open-source software contributors to lead the way in digitising carbon methodologies through the DLT Earth’s Bounty Program, with rewards of up to $5,000 per approved submission. This initiative is enabling the rapid expansion of Guardian’s open-source methodology library, helping to bring consistency and rigour to the digital carbon ecosystem.
The strategic collaboration was announced at the site of the ALLCOT Blue Carbon (ABC) Mangrove Restoration Project in Senegal (Verra Project 4653). The project, which is pursuing registration under Verra’s VCS and CCBS Programmes, utilised a digitalised version of Verra’s VM0033 Methodology to automate the creation and submission of its project design document.
By linking Hedera Guardian directly to the Verra Project Hub, the partnership unlocks key capabilities:
- Access to digital methodologies for faster, more predictable project development
- Automated workflows and streamlined data processes
- Integrated digital MRV (monitoring, reporting, verification) tools
- Confidential, yet transparent, project data flows
- Reduced review times and expedited credit issuance
These advancements are supported by a five-year capital investment from the Hedera Foundation and align with Verra’s strategy to digitalise 20 additional methodologies. “Verra is setting the benchmark for transparency and innovation in environmental markets,” said Wes Geisenberger, Vice President of Sustainability and ESG at the Hedera Foundation, adding further:
“Its focus on streamlining issuance, facilitating transparency, and ensuring environmental integrity through open-source innovation and participation has enabled a new chapter in accessible integrity initiatives, making digital measurement, reporting, and verification (dMRV) scalable for every project and methodology.”
DLT Earth’s mission is to strengthen the credibility and accessibility of environmental markets through open, verifiable digital infrastructure. This collaboration reflects the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to enabling scalable, science-led solutions that build trust across the carbon market value chain.
